It’s Possible: the story OF RONALD MCNAIR
Written by Rita Lorraine Hubbard
Illustrated by Chase Walker
School Library Journal: “Libraries and classrooms are spaces where young readers encounter possibilities for self-definition. When books honor disciplined practice as resistance and when craft becomes a way to defy limiting norms, children see that identity can be authored. [This biography invites] readers not just to see themselves but to shape themselves through sustained engagement with their own creative and intellectual power. This portrait of astronaut Ronald McNair (1950–1986) frames excellence as multidimensional and deliberately cultivated. A visually cohesive and thoughtfully rendered account that affirms disciplined ambition and the transformative power of envisioning oneself beyond imposed limits.” Read the review
Space Medal of Honor recipient Ronald McNair was the son of a mechanic and a school teacher. He grew up in a leaky house in 1950s South Carolina, but his humble beginnings never stopped him from dreaming big. From standing up to segregation in his local library at age nine to becoming a NASA astronaut, Ronald defied every boundary. He mastered physics, earned multiple black belts in karate, played the saxophone, and soared toward space twice! This inspiring biography shows young readers that with courage, discipline and will, they can achieve anything they set their sights on—no matter where they start.
Proudly developed in partnership with the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
